Just a note to say thanks to all who replied with suggestions. And
thanks to David Elliott for providing an ado file he has written. I
have read the txt files into STATA anyway and it looks like there is
no problem (the data files has the number of observations I expected)
but just to be sure I'll try some of the new "toys" you guys have
recommended and hit Ctrl+F. The OS I'm using is 64bit Windows XP so
unfortunately I can only play with some of the programs you have
recommended but not all.
