Re: st: troubles reading data in
Hi,
A meaningful description appears complete with variable names and their
proper descriptions. I increased the memory using ". set memory 30m".
Then run ". use SHS" and get the following error Segmentation Fault. I
am running STATA 8.0 for SUN. I just noticed on the notes that are shown
as the Stata starts running that:
Notes:
1. (-m# option or -set memory-) 1.00 MB allocated to data
I am thinking this is might be the issue.
Thanks,
Lucia

Hello Lucia,
It's hard to say from the information you provide, but my first guess
would be - check that the file SHS.dta in the current directory is in
the Stata format. Not just "has a .dta extension" but really is a
Stata file. Also try:
describe using SHS
to see if it provides meaningful description.
Check that you have an updated Stata and tell us the version/platform.
If the files you are working with are open and available in the
internet let us know.

Hi,
I am fairly new to STATA. I have a data file which is approximately 26M in
size. I issue the following command use SHS to read the data in but keep
getting the following error message: Segmentation Fault.
Would anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Lucia
