Getting rid of the equal sign worked. I knew I was hitting the limit of the string but didn't understand why.
Thank you both, Michael and Martin. I checked out ds, and it is a great command.

Generally misleading advice.
The 244 characters limit is only if the string is evaluated using an equals sign
or stored as a variable. In this specific case, the string is in a local macro
and just needs to be handled without any equals signs.
