There is a lot in environmental statistics. Many problems there hinge on
measurements of
concentrations of chemicals, usually more or less nasty, that may or may
not detectable instrumentally. However, my very broad impression is that
environmental statistics has more to learn from medical statistics than
vice versa.

Thank you very much for your suggestions, Joseph and Nick. 'intcens'
looks to be a very promising option. There seems to be quite a bit of
this in environmental and chemistry literature compared to medicine.
