Fellow Stata Users,

The deadline for submission of abstracts for the 2008 Summer North American Stata Users Group (SNASUG) meeting has been extended to May 15th. This provides those who may only recently have become aware of the meeting (e.g., through the Stata News) an opportunity to submit.

The meeting will be held July 24-25th in Chicago. Chicago is a great place to visit in the summer, is easy to get to (2 convenient airports to choose from, serving as a hub for several airlines), and the venue (the University of Chicago's Gleacher Center, located downtown on the bank of the Chicago river and steps from Michigan Avenue) is fantastic. Most importantly, the list of confirmed speakers now includes the following:

Jeffrey Wooldridge (Michigan State University)
Maarten Buis (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam)
William Gould (StataCorp)
David Drukker (StataCorp)
Roberto G. Gutierrez (StataCorp)

Those of you who know these individuals will recognize what a banner lineup this is -- you won't want to miss it. And, if you're considering attending, the organizing committee also urges you to consider submitting an abstract for possible presentation. This is a great opportunity to share what you've done in Stata with others, and to get valuable feedback from both developers and knowledgeable users. Moreover, if your abstract is selected for presentation, then the conference registration fee is waived (primary author only). You can't beat that.

Complete details on the meeting and submission instructions are available on the meeting's web page (http://www.stata.com/meeting/ snasug08/). If you have questions about whether a particular topic would be appropriate or about the program format, please contact myself or one of the other organizers (Scott Long, Pravin Trivedi, and Richard Williams).

We hope you'll all consider attending (and submitting to) what promises to be a fun and productive meeting.

-- Phil Schumm (on behalf of the organizing committee)
