Thanks for the interesting responses, and the tip about "fdasave".
It sounds like despite good capability in the areas of clinical trials
analysis and "analytics" (previous half-serious post), Stata may not
be marketed aggressively enough; I have never seen a Google Stata ad
for example, but I've seen other company ads.

think this is because Stata cannot be use to perform analysis of
clinical trials data. SAS certainly pushes this area of use with
SAS, and they have several SAS published how-to texts.
