When writing a help file I ususally have -help smcl- open and the
source of an existing help file that is both simple and still contains
all the things I want. -viewsource summarize.sthlp- (Stata 10) or
-viewsource summarize.hlp- (Stata 9) seem to be a good choice for that.
Also I write the help file in a plain text editor, and store it
regularly. After the first time I stored it, I go to Stata, -cd- to the
directory where I stored the help file, and open it with
-help <name of helpfile>- to see what it looks like. After every time I
save it, I can push the refress buton to see if the changes I made had
the desired effect (often not).
Hope this helps,
Maarten
