The command -syntax- is your friend when facing this kind of problem.
See: -help syntax-, and the example below:

capture program drop foo
program foo
syntax [, bla(string) blup(int 0) ]
di as txt "option bla contains " ///
as result "`bla'"
di as txt "option blup constains " ///
as result "`blup'"
end
foo
foo, bla("bar") blup(4)
