In fact, (re:1) my stata was indeed up-to-date (20 July 2007); (re:2)
twoway.ado was indeed version 1.1.1 (23jan2004) and graph.ado was
indeed version 1.1.6 (8jan2005); (3) to (5) were not the case, either.
I did not try the safe-booting, and in the end I reinstalled stata in
its original version (9.0). Good news: lcolor worked. Then I updated
all, and: good news again, lcolor works. So it seems I'm all set now.
So getting back to the question as to when the problem started
appearing: I am not sure I have ever seen lcolor working. I know this
problem has been bothering me for a while, so I am afraid I can't give
you any more precise clue as to which recent change might have
prompted this. My feeling is that after my first installation of stata
on this computer, which dates back about a year ago, I did "update
all" pretty soon, so I can't tell whether the problem existed right
from the beginning or only after the update.
