Here's my proposed two cents for Statalist FAQ:
If you are an economist used to quoting just the name and the year of
publication assuming it is common knowledge, please assess how
comfortable you will be with responses like "try Carlstein's (1986)
stationary series extension of Efron's (1979) inferential procedure",
or "this is the ratio of the quadratics in normal variables, as
described in Rao's LSI", or "you should be using Eicker-Huber (1967)
variance estimator".
