Thanks to Kit Baum, the -examples- package has been
updated on SSC.
-examples- was based on a common experience when
teaching Stata. I found that students were looking
goggle-eyed at the syntax diagrams heading help
entries. I often advised them to scroll to the bottom
and look at the examples, which might often give
an easier, quicker idea of what they needed. This led to the
idea that it would often be possible to automate
extraction of any Examples or Example section.
Richard Campbell kindly pointed out that -examples- was broken
by Stata 10. -examples- previously operated (mostly) by
identifying the appropriate .hlp file, but standard official
help files are now .sthlp. At the same time, many Stata
users will continue to be working also with user-written .hlp files.
The -examples- package thus includes a new -examples-
program which will work in Stata 10 (only!). As well
as fixing this extension problem, the program's operation
is now based on opening a new Viewer. The previous
operation was to type examples in the Results window.
The package also contains -examples8-, the previous version
renamed, which will work in Stata 8 or 9, and -wexamples,
which is a variant that opens windowed help.
To install or replace, use -ssc- only. (If you already
use -examples- under Stata 8 or 9, you have no reason
to update.)
