It will take a lot more than that to get me to switch to R! Again,
just to be clear, these are issues with Stat/Transfer 9, not Stata,
e.g. it is Stat/Transfer 9 that uses the activation code system, not
Stata 10 (at least that is what I hope, not having received Stata 10 yet.)
