Austin Nichols pointed out a clarity issue and a mistake in my previous
post. The numbers next to the various mf and ff (mf1 mf2 etc) variables
reflect the ranks of the particular friend; the values of these variables
are meant to be a generic representation of that particular friend's
response to a question on the survey. Id=1 lists male friend 3 as having
responded to the generic question with a value of 3.
Ranking ties are not allowed in the data within gender meaning if Dan were
listed as male friend 1, Tim could not also be listed as male friend 1.
The mistake was that id=2 should have an average of 3.5 (mf1+ff1)/2.
