Hi Joe,
Why not save your excel file as a tab delimited txt file and use insheet command ?

Subject: st: Re: import variable value label from TXT file
Dear All,*
I have one Stata data file (probably corrupted or due to system imcompatibility), which cannot be opened in one computer though it can be opened on another computer).
In trying to read the data file on my computer, I copied data from EXCEL into Stata editor and then saved it in Stata format. I also have the variable value label file (in TXT format) generated by the "de" command on the other computer.
I wonder whether there is a simple way to import variable value labels from the TXT file into the current new Stata data file.
Any suggestion is appreciated
Thanks
Joe
