Thanks to Kit Baum, an update to the -fre- package is available from
the SSC Archive. -fre- displays (and exports) one-way frequency
tables.
To install the update, type
. ssc install fre, replace
or use the -adoupdate- command.
Changes:
o -fre- has two new options, -ascending- and -descending-,
to display the table rows in order of frequency.
o -fre- has a new -order- option to display the tables in
alphabetical order of the variables, if more than one
  variable is specified.
o The column labels "Valid Percent" and "Cum. Percent"
have been shortened to "Valid" and "Cum.". This saves a
row in the table header. The labels (and some other
settings) can be easily changed in the beginning section
of "fre.ado" if you don't like the new labels. This might
also be relevant if you'd like to change the language of
  the labels.
o -fre- returned error if a variable contained only
missing values (thanks to Ian Watson for pointing out
  the bug). This is fixed.
