There is also another solution to this problem. I also had a problem
with special characters. To circumvent the problem, I created a new
*.ttf font called "Stata_Arial" which contains lots of greek letters,
subscripts and superscripts. Since Stata_Arial is based on the
original Arial font in Windows, choosing "Stata_Arial" to be the font
for Stata graphs is sufficient for me to produce nice looking Stata
charts with special characters. However, I am not quite sure whether
or not my "solution" is a legal one from a copyright point of view...
