Thanks to Kit Baum, an updated -jonter- is posted on SSC.
The major change is that -jonter- is now an r-class program, returning its
test statistics and p-value in return scalars. In addition, the display of
U statistics by individual level of the by-variable is now suppressed by
default.
The first change was prompted by a user who wanted to use -jonter-
with -permute- in small datasets. The second change provides for less
voluminous output when -jonter- is used with by-variables that have many
levels, such as with continuous data. There is a new -verbose- option for
those users who would like to see individual U statistics.
The package now has an auxiliary do-file (jontertest.do) that illustrates
usage of -jonter- with -permute-. It also illustrates two alternatives that
are mentioned in the help file: -nptrend- and -ktau-. These latter
commands are official in Stata, and would be good choices in essentially any
circumstance in which -jonter- can be used. -jonter- will benefit users who
are familiar with the Jonckheere-Terpstra test, but who have not yet been
made aware of these alternatives. -jonter- will also benefit users who need
to reproduce results of an analysis where the Jonckheere-Terpstra test had
been used.
