For my question there is no relevant code beyond -tsset panelvar
timevar- and -xtset panelvar timevar-. I simply asked what the
practical difference is. I take it there is none, except that, as the
help files indicate, panelvar is optional for -tsset- and obligatory for
xtset, while the converse is true regarding timevar?

Send the part of your code that is relevant for your question. R.

I've always - tsset - my dynamic panel datasets. I don't see -xtset- in
my Version 9 xt manual, or in my Version 8 basic documentation. Is
there any practical difference between -tsset- and -xtset- besides that
-tsset- doesn't require multiple panels and that -xtset- doesn't require
multiple time periods?

Have you -tsset- or -xtset- your data?
