st: Inequality programs -ineqdeco-, -ineqdec0- updated on SSC |

I have updated my programs -ineqdeco- and -ineqdec0- on SSC. To get the updates,
use -ssc install- or -adoupdate-. Program descriptions follow below.
The main change is that the programs are now version 8.2 rather than version 5
(sic), and the programs are rclass. There is now a large number of saved results in
r(..). Functionality is much the same as before. The old versions of the programs
have been retained (with different names; see below) for the convenience of users
who only have access to Stata versions 5 to 8.1.
Thanks to especially Nick Cox and Philippe Van Kerm for comments and suggestions,
and to Cem Baslevent for drawing attention to some typos in the old help file.

package ineqdeco from http://fmwww.bc.edu/repec/bocode/i
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TITLE
'INEQDECO': module to calculate inequality indices with decomposition by
subgroup
DESCRIPTION/AUTHOR(S)
ineqdeco estimates a range of inequality and related
indices commonly used by economists, plus optional
decompositions of a subset of these indices by population
subgroup. Indices estimated are: members of the single
parameter Generalized Entropy class GE(a) for a = -1, 0, 1,
2; the Atkinson class A(e) for e = 0.5, 1, 2; the Gini
coefficient, and the percentile ratios p90/p10 and p75/p25.
Optionally presented are indices related to the Atkinson
inequality indices, viz equally-distributed-equivalent income
Yede(e), social welfare indices W(e), and the Sen welfare index.
If there are observations with negative or zero values on
the variable of interest, and you wish to wish to estimate
inequality indices including these observations, then use
ineqdec0 (q.v.) This version is for Stata versions 8.2
onwards. For versions 5 to 8.1, use ineqdeco5 instead.

TITLE
'INEQDEC0': module to calculate inequality indices with decomposition by
subgroup
DESCRIPTION/AUTHOR(S)
ineqdec0 is a stripped-down version of ineqdeco (q.v.).
Unlike the latter, it will provide estimates using samples
containing zero or negative values for the variable of
interest. But as a result the portfolio of indices estimated
is reduced to the p90:p10 ratio, GE(2) = half the squared
coefficient of variation, and the Gini coefficient, and
Sen's welfare index. (The other indices estimated by
ineqdeco are not defined for zero and negative values of the
variable of interest.) This version is for Stata versions
8.2 onwards. For versions 5 to 8.1, use ineqdeco5 instead.
