st: Adding Multiple Variables with Similar Names

Hi,

I have another basic question for Stata 9. I have about 10 variables that all end with expend. Is there a command that will allow me to generate a new variable that adds up all of the expend variables? I know that there are commands like -drop *expend-, but is there anything that would add up the variables?
