My general experience has been that when there are multiple copies of a

What we had in outreg2 was an atavism, the unexpected appearance of a
primitive trait after several generations of absence. With several versions
of the program floating around, a throwback happens sometime, especially if
you are mixing the codes.
Darwinian selection does not seem to be working here, though, probably
because no self-replication is involved. I wonder if .ado files can be made
to act like a macro virus and if Bill G. ever wake up in the middle of the
night worrying about it.
