The short answer is that outreg2 does not require a large matsize. It also
does not alter the matrix e(b) unless reporting from the saved estimates.
The matrix e(b) is produced and made available by regression commands such
as xtabond2.
The non-reproducibility of the memory error suggests the possible existence
of other causes. It appears something bad happened to the matrix e(b), but I
cannot say more without looking at the evidence.

It seems that increasing the matsize (from 4500 to 6000) has solved the
problem, or at least is a work around.
Why should outreg2 need such a large matsize?
