Clint wants to combine two datasets; in the master datatset there are
two identifiers (pid and fid), in the using dataset only one (pid; fid
is missing). Clint now asks how to replace the missing fid values in the
using dataset with information from the master dataset.
In the example's master dataset there are 15 observations with the same pid but two different fid values. In the using dataset there are 7 observations with the same pid as in the master dataset; fid is missing for all observations.
I see no way to determine which observations in the using dataset should get which fid values from the master dataset. Is it something with the dates?
