Hey all -
I'm attempting to import some 1980's (84,85,86) CPS files into stata. There
doesn't seem to be a dictionary/do-file on the NBER website or a relatively
quick way to get it into stata. I'm just not sure how to get it into a
readable format. Any information would be most appreciated!!!

I had used the CPS (that's the Current Population Survey from the
U.S. Census Bureau), but not those years. I got the dictionaries
(which needed a bit of tweaking) from NBER (National Bureau of
Economic Research). So, I guess you mean that NBER has some
dictionaries, but not for those years. You might want to contact the
person at NBER who did the dictionaries; she may be able to do them
for the years in question. (I don't recall her name, but I can get
it if necessary. But you probably know who it is, if you have been
scouting the NBER website.) She had an automated method of
generating a Stata dictionary from the Census Bureau's layout
description. So it may be a simple matter to run it for the years in question.
Also, if you run across any SAS code to read the files, write to me
privately; I have an automated tool for converting that to a Stata dictionary.
Good Luck
