This is off-topic, but this thread has been going on for a while, so
I'll offer another alternative to consider.
If you are interested in a free, public-domain, platform-independent
(Java-based), integrated suite of tools including a Word processor,
math/equation editor, drawing program, data base manager and
presentation program, you might look at OpenOffice 2.0 at
http://openoffice.org. OpenOffice documents can be produced in the new
XML-based open-document format or in more traditional proprietary
formats like Word's .doc. They can also be saved in pdf format or
converted to HTML format with the click of a single button.
In the USA, the state of Massachusetts now requires that all official
documents be produced in either pdf or the new open-document format of
OpenOffice to make sure that access to public documents will not be
dependent on proprietary formats that may change and be unreadable in
the future.
