The first part of your question can be
answered using Stata [sic].
. findit neural
points to some work by Stas Kolenikov.
In principle there is no obvious reason why
Stata and particularly Mata [sic] should not be
used for neural networks. I think here we have a
very simple feedback effect: people who enter this
field find lots of software already available
in other languages and thus find the idea
of implementing it all in Stata too much
like reinventing the wheel even when they like
Stata. Also, conversely, it may just be that apart
from Stas none of the most productive Stata
programmers is interested in this field.

Does anyone know of ado files written for running neural
network models in STATA?
I can seem to find anything, but I would think this is
possible, perhaps using MATA code.
Otherwise, can someone email their thoughts on other software solutions for ANN.
