Tom is absolutely right. The problem is due to the introduction of the time-series operators in verison 6 (I think). Some formerly valid names (at least valid when I wrote the help file - in the era of Stata 5) were not allowed anymore.
I have been planning to fix this (and a series of other things) for a long time, but never got round to doing that. I happily deleted this entry in my to-do list with the release of Stata 9 which includes much more powerful correspondence analysis features.
