	I can't comment on Java or C++ here. Stata 9 has some regular
	expression functions.

	i have two data sets and am required to compare the name field in
	between both, however there are some inconsistencies - causing me to
	require pattern matching techniques in this case.
	is stata anywhere near the capabilities of a language such as java for
	pattern matching techniques, do you think it would be better to use a
	c++ plugin to do this?
	any tips would be welcome.
