Naji,
Sounds like a good theory, but it is not only in this example where  
I've noticed the speed differences. Running a series of regressions  
on an 8.7MB dataset also goes about twice as fast on my PC as on my  
Mac. I've been playing around w/ changing the "set memory" settings  
on my Mac, and in some cases I can cut down execution time by setting  
memory lower, but in others I cannot. And in those cases when I can  
get the time down, it is not by enough to explain the discrepancies.
