what about

replace vend = "STRYKER" if index(vend,"STRYKER")
replace vend = "ZIMMER" if index(vend,"ZIMMER")
replace vend = "SULZER" if index(vend,"SULZER")

then there should onyl be a few lines with typos left over, e.g.,
  STYKER ITALIA SRL
