Thanks to Kit Baum, there is now a new version of the -bspline- package
downloadable from SSC. In Stata, use the -ssc- command to do this.
The -bspline- package is described as below on my website. The new version
fixes a minor bug, which caused -frencurv- occasionally to issue warning
messages which were not justified. I have also updated the manual
-bspline.pdf- to include a few more references.
Best wishes
Roger

TITLE
bspline: Create a basis of B-splines or reference splines
DESCRIPTION/AUTHOR(S)
The bspline package contains the programs bspline and frencurv, which
generate bases of splines in an X-variable for inclusion in the
design matrix of a regression model. The program bspline generates a
basis of Schoenberg B-splines. The program frencurv ("French curve")
generates a basis of reference splines, spanning the same spline
space as the corresponding B-splines, but the fitted parameters
in the regression model corresponding to the reference splines are
simply values of the spline at reference points on the X-axis.
These parameters are easy for non-mathematicians to understand.
The user is allowed to specify the power of the spline, and also the
positions of the knots and/or reference points.
Full documentation of the program (including Methods and Formulas)
can be found in the ancillary file bspline.pdf, which can be viewed
using the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
