I wuold like to know why when you try to open a big file with .dta
extension directly (i.e with mouse double click), stata software start
with memory of 1M, and so it advises you to increase memory. Obviously I
've already set memory to 30M permanently, as you can see starting
software itself.
Thank You

I don't know, but here is one workaround. When I double-click on a .dta
file, the first few lines look like this:
-------------------
Notes:
1. (/m# option or -set memory-) 1.00 MB allocated to data
running c:\ado\personal\profile.do ...
. use "D:\SOC592\Statafiles\1sample-III.dta"
-------------------
My profile.do includes the command -set memory 128m- so the memory gets
bumped before it opens the file.
