You could achieve this by using an external text editor instead of 
Stata's built-in do-file editor. Have a look at the texteditors FAQ: 
http://ideas.repec.org/c/boc/bocode/s423801.html . Apart from a 
presentation of a large list of editors (and their capabilities), for 
different operating systems, you will also find advice on how to 
integrate these editors in Stata.
