In light of the discussion that occurred overnight (for me at least) I thought the following
web-page might be useful, and could possibly be included in the Statalist FAQ (if the
maintainer feels it appropriate :-).

It offers very general advice, and I would say that the guidelines offered here are a lot
harsher than the friendly environment of Statalist, but I thought it was something that
might be of use.
