I just forgot in my last posting to recommend StatTransfer
(www.stattransfer.com), which satisfies all my needs concerning any
conversion tasks I ever had (including SPSS, Excel or tab delimited text to
Stata files and vice versa).
As far as I know they offer an evaluation version on their webpage.
