The vim mapping suggested by Patrick Joly is just great. Perhaps this is
obvious to everyone but me, but it will not work unless one also has the
"set nocompatible" turned on in the beginning.
I also added <Enter> at the end
map <F8> :!start "c:/program files/stata8/wstata.exe" do "%:p" <Enter>
to make the do file run without pressing the <Enter> key.
