Ado files can be used in interactive mode. If you type, in Stata,

net from http://www.kcl-phs.org.uk/rogernewson/stata7/
net desc parmest
net install parmest

then the Stata 7 -parmest- will be installed on your system. If you then type

help parmest

then you will get the on-line help for -parmest-, including the options 
-escal()-, -emac()- and -evec()-. And if in the -auto- data you type

parmby "logit foreign mpg weight", label escal(N ll_0 ll df_m chi2 r2_p) 
norestore
describe
list

then you will find that there is a -parmby- output data set in the memory, 
containing extra variables named es_1 to es_6, which contain the estimation 
results e(N), e(ll_0), e(ll), e(df_m), e(chi2) and e(r2_p), respectively. 
For more information on estimation results in general, see the online help 
for -estimates-. For a guide to estimation results for -logit-, read the 
Reference manual under -[R] logit-.
