Why can't you combine the ~ and - conventions for abbreviating a varlist?
i.e. :
. describe ca1endometriumq35f - ca1haematologicalq35h
works, as does:
. describe ca1~q35f ca1~q35h
but this gives an error:
. describe ca1~q35f - ca1~q35h
- invalid name
r(198);
I can't see any good reason why the first two are OK but not the third.
(I'm using Stata/SE 8.2)
Thanks,
Roger.
