I haven't had that particular problem with Stata, but would recommend you
backup your hard drive and run a scan on it. I had similar problems with
other programs and it turned out my hard drive was failing. It actually
took a couple monthes for my drive to competely fail but slowly more wierd
things would happen. This is probably not your problem, but make backups
just in case!
