Subject | st: (general statistics) symbol for independent random variables |
Date | Wed, 26 Nov 2003 08:14:53 -0600 |
Hello - For denoting independent random variables, there doesn't seem to be any standard notation in the statistical literature other than "i.i.d." to refer to a group of independently identically distributed RV's. I have occasionally used something like o X | Y as a shorthand meaning "X and Y are independent". I am curious as to what other symbols people use to denote independent random variables - or for that matter a group of mutually independent RV's.
