Adonlan,
If you want to open the log file in another program besides SAS, you need to
change your file associations.
In windows you can either do this on a temporary or permanent basis. On a
temporary basis, shift-right-click on the .log file and select "Open with"
and choose the program you would like to use.
If you want to permanently associate the .log extension with Stata and not
SAS, you can go to "start-> settings->control panel->folder options" on
WinXP. Select the tab "File Types" and change the associated program. YMMV
when using other versions of Windows and someone else will have to answer
for the other operating systems.

Subject: st: click-opening log files
Do I misunderstand the basics of the log files?
Saving as smlc, click-opening gives a format in word that has
nonsense-code
embedded.
Saving as log opens the log in SAS - not intended!
