Mauchly, J.W. 1940. Significance test for sphericity of a 
normal n-variate distribution. Annals of Mathematical 
Statistics 11: 204-209. 

For every person who thinks "Mauchly's test of sphericity" 
there must be a hundred who think John W. Mauchly, principal 
inventor with J. Presper Eckert of ENIAC and thus one of 
the founders of modern computing...
