You don't say what platform you are using.
I guess Windows. If not, you need to say
whether you are using some flavour of Unix
or Macintosh.
The -save- command in Stata saves files
with extension .dta. So whatever you are
using to find files must include that
extension as a possibility. In particular,
the .doc extension, which signals a proprietary
format used by Microsoft software (especially
for Word documents), is never used by Stata
for any purpose whatsoever.
However, none of this has changed in Stata
8 as compared with Stata 7.
If this does not help, contact technical support
at Stata with more precise details of what you
are doing.
