Just a general comment:
I do not think any apology is needed here. If there is a
solution outside Stata to a problem, especially a better solution,
Statalisters should _always_ feel free to point to it.
Statalist has never been based on any principle that
Stata is perfect or complete, and its usefulness
should certainly include providing this kind of information.
(Stata Corp, and many user-programmers as well, also
welcome statements on what cannot be done in Stata.
Sometimes they can prove you wrong.)
