I have no insights to offer except that I have occasionally had
the same problem on a Dell Inspiron 8200. At first I thought
the problem was related to running two monitors (laptop +
external), but on rare occasions it has happened just on the
laptop. I don't use Office XP so that does not seem to be the
problem. For me it only occurs about once every two months
so I have just rebooted and ignored the problem.
