John is confusing the -pwcorr- command, which is built into 
official Stata, with -pwcorrs-, which was written by Fred 
Wolfe and published in STB-35 and STB-49. 

-pwcorr- calculates Pearson (product-moment) calculations. 

-pwcorr- is documented at [R] correlate. The estimation 
procedure and significance test used are documented on 
p.232 of that entry in the version 8 manuals.
