You can get sliders for histograms (and any other graph) in Data Desk 6.2 (6.2 for OS X just came out as a simple carbon port of 6.1 for $65). I don't think Stata graphics will be fast enough for this kind of EDA graphics. It's a superb publication quality system (several colleagues have asked where my graphics came from) that can be very effectively used to investigate the data as well, but it's no live EDA system. You need Data Desk or JMP for this. My guess is a second graphics engine will be needed for this kind of thing in Stata 9.

I very strongly disagree with Nick's conclusion
here (even taking it as somewhat tongue-in-cheek):

For any graphic command that has an option such
as bin (histogram), bwidth (lowess), width (kdensity),
I would very much like to see dynamic graphics -- i.e.,
a slider such that I can change, e.g., the number of
bins in real time and see what kind of difference
it makes to the graph.

Would anyone else like to see something like this?
