st: initial values not feasible

Dear Stata listers

I am using Stata 8 to run a simple earnings frontier model. If I estimate
for the whole sample, everything seems fine. However, the problem comes in
when I split the sample across gender. Estimating the same model for males,
I am getting the message  
"initial values not feasible" r(1400). I will appreciate if anyone could
tell me what's wrong and how do I correct the problem.
