I am running Stata/SE (still version 7) on a DEC Alpha unix
system with 1 gig of RAM.
yolen:~$ ulimit -a
core file size (blocks) 0
data seg size (kbytes) 131072
file size (blocks) unlimited
max memory size (kbytes) 1019208
open files 4096
pipe size (512 bytes) 8
stack size (kbytes) 2048
cpu time (seconds) unlimited
max user processes 64
virtual memory (kbytes) 1048576
However, I cannot seem to allocate more than about 120 MB to Stata:
. set mem 120m
Current memory allocation
-------------------------
current memory usage
settable value description (1M = 1024k)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
set maxvar 5000 max. variables allowed 1.613M
set memory 120M max. data space 120.000M
set matsize 400 max. RHS vars in models 1.254M
-----------
122.867M
. set mem 125m
op. sys. refuses to provide memory
r(909);
My system administrator assures me that there is no limit on
my use of memory and that the problem must be in the request
to Stata.
I would be grateful for advice, including assurance that
upgrading to Stata 8 will resolve the problem.
Sincerely,
