Your last post was true, at least on unix platforms with the
ubiquitous BSD lpr/lpd line printer spooling system and
magicfilter or apsfilter along with ghostscript. EPS files
can be printed directly to a ps-compatible printer using the
usual lpr command. And the same goes with PDF files.
